MNUFC2 and North Texas SC played to a back-and-forth match filled with scoring opportunities on Saturday night that ended in a 1-1 draw during regulation, where defender Philip Tarnue scored the lone goal for the Twos. But in the end, North Texas took the extra point after winning the shootout 5-4.
10’ - North Texas SC took the first dangerous strike of the night. Edouard Nys found space from the right side of MNUFC2’s box before taking a shot at goal, but First Team goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich made the save and punched the ball out of the box.
19’ - MNUFC2 midfielder Sam Vigilante drove the ball to the top of North Texas’ penalty area, weaving between defenders before he passed it to an open MNUFC Academy midfielder Hector Cruz. Cruz’s shot from inside the box sailed above the crossbar.
27’ (1-0) - The Twos scored the first goal of the night following a sequence of consecutive shots. MNUFC Academy defender Anderson Farris, in the attacking third, passed the ball back to an open Luciano Pechota, who took a long distance shot on target that was saved by goalkeeper Eryk Dymora. The ball’s rebound found Vigilante, who took a quick shot from inside the box that was blocked. That rebound quickly fell to the feet of defender Philip Tarnue outside the box where his shot found the back of the net.
39’ - Rizvanovich made a stop after Daniel Baran beat an MNUFC2 defender and fired off a close range strike. The shot hit Rizvanovich and then was ultimately cleared out of bounds by defender Nick Dang to end the play.
45’+1’ - Nys nearly equalized for the Texas side when his shot from the right side of the Twos’ box hit the opposite post and deflected back into play.
45’+4’ (1-1) - North Texas was awarded a penalty before half time. Nick Simmonds took the penalty attempt, but was stopped by Rizvanovich. However, Ricky Louis scored from the rebound to level the match.
49’ - Vigilante created the first dangerous scoring chance of the second half when he held possession in the North Texas box and created a one-on-one against goalkeeper Eryk Dymora. Vigilante’s shot from inside the box was ultimately saved.
61’ - MNUFC2 had yet another close chance to take the lead when First Team forward Darius Randell controlled the ball in the North Texas’ six-yard box, but the shot hit the crossbar and deflected back out into play.
66’ - Louis, on a breakaway run, created a one-on-one versus Rizvanovich, but the Minnesota United keeper made the save to keep the score level.
74’ - Defender Alpha Kabia took a shot from long distance and for the second time in the second half, the shot hit the woodwork and out of bounds, resulting in a North Texas goal kick.
