De Villardi Undergoes Successful Surgery

Thomas

Minnesota United today announced that defender Thomas de Villardi underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in training last week. De Villardi, 23, was drafted 42nd overall by MNUFC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft and after training with the club since preseason, was signed in mid-March. He is expected to make a full recovery, but will be out for the remainder of the season.

“Thomas underwent successful surgery today to repair his ruptured left Achilles tendon. He is anticipated to have a six- to nine-month recovery,” said MNUFC Head Athletic Trainer Sean Kupiec.

The French native had four goals and 16 assists in his college career, split evenly between Duquesne University and the University of Delaware. He was named to the All-CAA First Team his junior year, with nine assists and two goals. De Villardi also spent time on the U23 teams of the Seattle Sounders and New York Red Bulls.

Minnesota United squares off against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, April 1 at TCF Bank Stadium and single match tickets are still available. It’s not too late to join the Itasca Society. Fewer than 700 spots remain in this exclusive club as we rapidly approach the inaugural season limit of 11,842 members — one for every lake in Minnesota. A portion of all proceeds from these season tickets are donated to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ Loon Monitoring program. Both season and single match tickets are available now at MNUFC.COM or by calling 763.4SOCCER.
