"From The North: Faribault Boys Soccer" | Twin Cities Film Fest

From the North

“From the North: Faribault Boys Soccer,” a documentary produced by Minnesota United FC about the boys soccer team from Faribault High School in Minnesota, has been accepted into the Twin Cities Film Fest. Documenting the journey of the tiny high school program as it works to overcome a losing history and the loss of its best player, the film shows how the team embraced its diversity — with players from rural Minnesota, Hispanic players and Somali immigrants — and turned a challenge into a strength, with players and coaches working to build bridges.

The film will be screened on Saturday, October 28 at 10:15 a.m. at the Showplace ICON Theatre at The Shops at West End in St. Louis Park.

With every win in the 2015 season — including some over teams they hadn’t beaten in eight years — the team’s confidence grew, but their resilience would be tested when they made their first trip to the state tournament to face an undefeated squad featuring one of the state’s best players — during a blizzard.

The Twin Cities Film Fest (TCFF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to become the premiere film festival in the Midwest showcasing exceptional independent films. TCFF is dedicated to the cultivation of local filmmakers by providing educational resources to expand skill sets, networking with the national film industry, and nurturing distribution opportunities. “From the North: Faribault Boys Soccer” will screen at this year’s festival, which runs from October 18–28 at the ShowPlace ICON Theatre at The Shops at West End in St. Louis Park.
