The summer of soccer comes to a close in dramatic fashion this weekend as the Twos host The Town FC, a major conference contender with momentum in spades. August has been a mixed bag for the Loons, with a victory, a loss, and two shootout wins on the record. After falling 3-2 to Real Monarchs, a strong comeback is in order for a Minnesota side hovering just above the playoff line. With only six games left to secure a postseason berth, the Twos are more motivated than ever to pull out all the stops and come away with a full three points to set the tone for the remainder of the season.
In their last meeting, the Loons fell to The Town 3-2 on the road, part of The Town’s 10-match undefeated streak they’ll be bringing into this weekend. At second in the West, the San Jose side have the third-highest goals-for tally in the conference (49). Striker Nonso Adimabua leads that charge with nine goals and six assists to his name. Keeper Francesco Montali, formerly of MNUFC2, is tied for second in the league in clean sheets with six. The stats are impressive, but the Twos have no shortage of talent or resilience, for their part.
Defender Britton Fischer logged his first goal of the season last weekend with a well-placed header, the ball impeccably serviced by winger Kieran Chandler, who recently earned a first-team contract with MNUFC. Forward Logan Dorsey upped his own score tally to five on Sunday, cementing his position as the club’s second-highest scorer of the year, and consistent midfield performances from Babacar Niang and Curt Calov make for a strong foundation as the Twos pursue a victory back home this weekend.
The Twos will kick off the first of their back-to-back home games this Sunday, August 31 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. With just four home matches remaining in the regular season, now’s the time to join us in person at NSC! But if you can’t make it, you can always stream the match on MLSNEXTPro.com, starting at 7:00 p.m. CT.
