Two goals by midfielder Momoh Kamara and a game-winning tap-in by forward Luke Hille propelled MNUFC2 to three points in come-from-behind fashion in front of fans at RCTC Stadium in Rochester, Minnesota. The Twos now turn to finish their home stand next Friday, August 15 against Tacoma Defiance in a continued MLS NEXT Pro playoffs push.
3’ - Sporting Kansas City II earned a free kick in the very early stages of the game, notably right outside of the MNUFC2 penalty area. Shane Donovan took the direct free kick, where it was swiftly blocked by the wall of Minnesota defenders to stifle the early scoring chance.
18’ - Off another free kick, this time from distance. Donovan sent in his service into the box, connecting with midfielder Blaine Mabie. Mabie’s header went toward the far upper-right corner, where MNUFC2 goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich made the diving save.
32’ - The Twos saw their first close scoring chance after being awarded a free kick about 30 yards from goal. Midfielder Curt Calov took the direct free kick, with his shot just missing above the cross bar.
33’ - Less than a minute later, Minnesota defender Kieran Chandler gained possession in SKCII’s defending third before he turned toward goal and quickly ripped a shot from distance, forcing Kansas City goalkeeper Jack Kortkamp to make a save.
39’ (1-0) - Sierra Leone international midfielder Momoh Kamara opened the scoring from long distance. The scoring sequence began when Chandler sent a ball into the box from the left flank. Forward Logan Dorsey briefly held possession before passing the ball back to an open Kamara. The midfielder ripped his shot from distance, netting the goal and giving the Loons the 1-0 advantage before half time.
50’ - The Twos started off the second half with a dangerous opportunity. Troy Putt drove up the right flank and into the SKCII penalty area before sending a pass into the center of the six-yard box. Forward Darius Randell was crashing toward goal and barely missed Putt’s pass, ending the scoring chance empty handed.
57’ (1-1) - SKCII equalized the game. Forward Medgy Alexandre received a long ball over top on the left side of the field, beating Farris and forcing a one-on-one with Rizvanovich. Alexandre’s shot found the back of the net to level the game at one apiece.
61’ (1-2) - Alexandre scored a second for the Kansas City side. A through-ball pass connected successfully, where the forward found a sliver of space and curled the shot into the upper corner of the net.
69’ - Chandler created a dangerous spot in a give-and-go sequence. Chandler’s shot from distance forced Kortkamp to leave his feet and make a diving stop.
70’ (2-2) - Kamara scored his second goal of the night just moments later to bring the score level once again. Midfielder Babacar Niang first took a shot from inside the SKCII box, which was then deflected. That deflection landed at the feet of Kamara, who ran towards goal and tapped-in his shot past Kortkamp.
81’ (3-2) - Minnesota took the lead late into the match. For the second straight game in a row, Putt connected a pass inside the box, where an un-marked Hille was able to tap the ball into the lower right side of the net to score his 10th goal and give MNUFC2 the late lead.
