MNUFC2 rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to earn a 3-2 comeback victory over Austin FC II on Sunday night. Mamadou Dieng recorded a brace, including the match-winning penalty kick in the 72nd minute, while Luke Hille netted the second-half equalizer to help the Twos secure all three points. With the victory, MNUFC2 heads back on the road to face Sporting Kansas City II on Saturday, July 19 at 7:00 p.m. CT.

3’ (1-0) - MNUFC2 opened the score on its first attacking opportunity off a counterattack. First Team goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich played the ball down the left flank with Philip Tarnue before sending a through ball to Jakob Friedman. Friedman then delivered a cross into the center of Austin FC II’s penalty area, where First Team forward Mamadou Dieng was able to push the ball over the line and into the back of the net.

8’ - The Twos had another close scoring chance after possessing the ball deep into Austin FC II’s defending third. MNUFC Academy defender Jadan Bernard sent a ball into the center of the box, where forward Troy Putt was unmarked. Putt then attempted a header, but the shot missed just wide of the left post.

19’ - MNUFC2 continued to create dangerous chances through Dieng after he received a long ball from Putt. Dieng turned and fired a shot from just right outside the 18-yard box, but the attempt sailed over the crossbar.

34’ (1-1) - The hosts found the back of the net after Dren Dobruna carried the ball forward and curled a shot that was initially blocked by Rizvanovich. The rebound fell to Jorge Alastuey at the top of the 18-yard box, where he fired a first-time effort into the back of the net.

45’ + 1’ (1-2) - Austin FC II doubled their lead through Alastuey  after he connected a long cross from Patrick Cayelli on the left flank. Alastuey met the service with a header that found the back of the net.

59’ - Alastuey nearly scored a third for the Verde & Black, but his close-range flick attempt toward goal was cleared away by the MNUFC2 back line to keep the score at 2-1.

64’ (2-2) - Luke Hille found the equalizer after his initial header attempt off a corner but the attempt was initially blocked. The ball fell directly on his feet, where he fired a second attempt and was able to find the tie.

72’ (3-2) - Dieng converted from the penalty spot after Luciano Pechota was fouled inside the 18-yard box. Dieng sent his shot to the goalkeeper’s left to give Minnesota the lead.

78’ - Austin FC II created a strong scoring chance, where a run at goal saw a pass go into the Twos’ goalkeeper box. The ball floated inside the box untouched, where Mohammad Badawiya’s quick-touch shot just missed wide of the right post.

90’ + 6’ - Austin FC II had yet another close chance through Stefan Dobrijevic from the top of the 18-yard line. His attempt hit the crossbar and was then cleared out of danger.
