MNUFC2 battled back from an early deficit to earn a 2-1 comeback victory over Real Monarchs on Sunday evening. Goals from Luke Hille and Loïc Mesanvi powered the Twos to their third home win of the season as they continued to build momentum heading into their next matchup on Friday, July 18, where they will travel to face Portland Timbers2 at Providence Park.
25’ - MNUFC2 recorded a scoring chance on a free kick from defender Kieran Chandler, who sent the ball from the top left side of the penalty area to the far side just over forward Luke Hille’s head and out for a goal kick.
27’ - The Twos continued to be a threat, this time after a throw-in near the 18-yard box. Chandler recovered the ball on the right side of the penalty area and sent a long aerial pass to connect with forward Darius Randell at the penalty spot, but Randell’s header sailed just over the crossbar.
33’ (0-1) - Real Monarchs opened the scoring when Wesley Carter sent the ball into the 18-yard box, where it deflected off Chandler’s right foot and fell to Luca Moisa. Moisa volleyed it into the right side of the net, beating MNUFC2 goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich.
44’ - The Twos generated another scoring chance when forward Loïc Mesanvi played a pass from the endline to attacking midfielder Momoh Kamara at the top of the box, but Kamara’s shot went wide of the left post and out of play.
59’ (1-1) - MNUFC2 scored the equalizer after Troy Putt completed the run that Kipp Keller sent him on after sending a long through ball. Putt drove the ball from that right flank into the 18 yard box and sent a through ball through the center of the area, where Hille was able to tap the ball into the net.
63’ - The Twos created another opening as Putt sent Kamara on a run into the box, but Grayson Carter challenged and made the save with his right arm.
65’ - Mesanvi drove the ball from the middle third into the opponent’s penalty area and found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Mackay, who came off his line to block the shot with his body. Mesanvi quickly recovered the ball and attempted a central pass, but it was intercepted and cleared.
69’ (2-1) - MNUFC2 took the lead when Kamara sent Mesanvi on a run. Mesanvi sprinted forward, took a touch, and fired a shot toward the left post that rolled past Grayson Carter’s outstretched foot and into the net.
80’ - Tommy Silva played a quick give-and-go with Owen Anderson in the middle third, sending him on a run down the left flank. Silva then delivered a cross that was blocked by Anderson Farris. Real Monarchs midfielder Anderson collected the ball and set up Silva, whose one-touch shot sailed over Rizvanovich’s goal.
81’ - The Twos created another scoring opportunity that began with a Mesanvi through ball up to Putt, who juked Real Monarch defender Silva and drove to the middle of the box, where he sent the ball to the near post, but was saved.
