MNUFC2 earned a hard-fought 2-0 shutout victory against Houston Dynamo 2 on Sunday night in Texas on the backs of second-half goals by Darius Randell and Luke Hille. First Team goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich recorded his first clean sheet of the season and the team's fifth overall. The Twos return home to Minnesota to take on Colorado Rapids 2 on Saturday, Sept. 5.
8’ - Sam Vigilante created MNUFC2’s first dangerous scoring opportunity after driving into the Houston Dynamo 2 goalkeeper’s box. He took the ball into the attacking third and shot the ball from close range, but it drifted just wide of the far post.
16’ - Houston’s JJ Bell took a shot and recorded Dynamo Dos’ first real chance of the evening, but First Team goalkeeper Kayne Rizvanovich made the save to keep the score level in the first half.
48’ (1-0) - The Twos scored first just three minutes into the second half. First Team forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith drove the ball into the attacking third from the left flank, and just before reaching the endline, he passed the ball further into the keeper’s box. Midfielder Jakob Friedman got a quick touch on the ball and flicked it on, where First Team forward Darius Randell finished the tap-in to help Minnesota gain the lead.
63’ - Adebayo-Smith found space in behind the Dynamo Dos backline from the left and created a one-on-one with goalkeeper Logan Erb. Adebayo-Smith’s shot from inside the box was ultimately saved.
67’ - JJ Bell connected a quick, short pass to Arthur Sousa just atop MNUFC2’s box, which created a one-on-one between Sousa and Rizvanovich. The young Minnesota goalkeeper was forced off his line to make an attempt to block Sousa’s shot, but the attempt missed both Rizvanovich and the post, ending Houston’s scoring chance.
70’ - Forward Luke Hille was fouled inside Houston’s box, therefore winning a penalty-kick attempt for MNUFC2.
72’ (2-0) - Hille converted the penalty kick attempt to double the lead over Houston Dynamo 2.
76’ - The Houston side continued to press for a goal, and Sousa again controlled possession inside MNUFC2’s box before taking a shot from close range. Rizvanovich stepped up and made a kick-save to keep the score at 2-0.
