MNUFC2 played out a hard-fought contest against Colorado Rapids 2, with both sides trading goals and key moments throughout the match. With the result, the Twos officially clinched a postseason berth for the first time in club history. The stage is now set for a decisive regular-season finale, as they host Sporting Kansas City II in Blaine on Sunday, October 5 at 3:00 p.m.
9’ (1-0) - MNUFC2 opened the scoring through Logan Dorsey. The goal came after Momoh Kamara and Babacar Niang combined with a quick give-and-go in the middle third. Kamara then released a long through ball for Dorsey, who drove into the penalty box. Facing goalkeeper Kendall Starks one-on-one, Dorsey calmly slotted the ball past Starks to find the back of the net.
12’ - Colorado Rapids 2 got their first dangerous opportunity on target after a defensive mistake and Rogelio Garcia obtained possession of the ball near the top of the 18-yard line. Garcia played a quick-short pass to Billo Diop. Diop then took a touch and shot a right-footed shot going just wide of the right post.
17’ - Rapids 2 continued to be a threat this time with Garcia. After receiving the ball inside the penalty area, Garcia took a shot that went just narrowly off the right post.
27’ - After Colorado conceded a free kick on the left flank near the top of the 18-yard box, Steve Flores stepped up to take the shot. His effort was headed toward the upper middle of the goal, but Kayne Rizvanovich punched it away out of danger, where Rapids 2 conceded another set piece.
45’ - Dorsey gained possession on the right flank, where Starks stepped up to apply high pressure. Dorsey took him on and fired a right-footed shot from the right side just outside the penalty area, but defender Charlie Harper cleared the effort off the line to deny the Twos a second goal.
61’ - Rapids 2 continued to seek out opportunities. Sydney Wathuta gained possession of the ball from a through ball from Ali Fadal. Wathuta was right in front of goal where he took the shot but went over the cross bar.
84’ (2-0) - The Twos conceded a free kick just outside the penalty box. Alexis Fariña stepped up and struck a powerful shot, curling it past goalkeeper Starks and into the back of the net.
89’ (2-1) - In the 89th minute, Colorado Rapids found the back of the net when Billo Diop headed in a cross from James Cameron on the left flank.
