Down two goals, MNUFC2 made a comeback to force a shootout from the mark, earning a 2-2 regulation draw and gaining the extra point following a 4-3 shootout victory on Saturday night. Forward Luke Hille scored both regulation goals for the Twos, including the equalizer at the death. Next, MNUFC2 takes on Sporting Kansas City II at RCTC Stadium in Rochester, Minnesota on Friday, Aug. 8.
4’ - MNUFC2’s first dangerous scoring attempt was a quick give-and-go sequence between forwards Logan Dorsey and Luke Hille. Dorsey first gained possession and drove towards the top of the Houston Dynamo 2 goalkeeper box. He found and connected with an open Hille, whose close-range shot was saved by Dynamo 2 keeper Blake Gillingham.
13’ - MNUFC Academy goalkeeper made a crucial stop at close range to keep the game scoreless. Houston sent a ball in, landing just outside the six-yard box. Striker Stephen Annor Gyamfi quickly connected the pass and turned a shot, but Zeruhn’s arm made the stop, deflecting the ball out of the immediate area.
24’ - In yet another attack from the Twos, midfielder Curt Calov quickly turned up field and into the Dynamo 2 defending third. He then took a long-distance strike and forced Gillingham to make a save.
27’ (0-1) - The visiting side scored first after driving the ball into Minnesota’s penalty area from the left flank. A quick-touch pass deeper into the box led to a one-touch shot, where midfielder Tomas Romero opened the scoring in the match.
39’ (0-2) - Just moments after a dangerous shot was missed, Dynamo 2 notched their second goal of the half. Stephen Annor Gyamfi was in the right place to tap-in a ball that was sent over top from the left side of the 18-yard box, landing at the far post. Winger Juan Viveros brought the ball down, and Annor Gyamfi tapped the shot in to extend the lead.
41’ (1-2) - Luke Hille scored to bring the Twos back into a one-goal deficit. Troy Putt helped create the scoring moment after he dribbled the ball into Houston’s penalty area. Putt then fed a through-ball to Hille, who crashed towards goal; his shot beating the keeper to get on the board before half time.
69’ - Hille nearly scored the equalizer from a header attempt. MNUFC Academy defender Anderson Farris provided service into the box from a cross, where Hille leaped to connect on a header that just missed the far post.
72’ - Just a few minutes later, Troy Putt was saved twice on close-range shots from deep inside Dynamo 2’s penalty area, continuing a persistent MNUFC2 attack during the later part of the match.
79’ - Houston’s Isaac Mwakatuya’s foul on Hille just outside of the box resulted in second yellow card and a red-card ejection, leaving Houston Dynamo 2 down a man for the remainder of the match.
81’ - Momoh Kamara found open space atop the 18-yard box, just above the half circle, when he took a shot from distance, but was saved in diving fashion by the Dynamo 2 keeper.
90’+7’ (2-2) - Hille scored in the final moments of the game. Muba Nour sent a ball into the Houston box, where a scramble of players attempted to possess it. Out of that scramble, Hille got the ball and tapped-in the shot to equalize the game at the death, forcing a shootout from the mark to decide the extra point.
