MNUFC2 earned a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over North Texas SC on Sunday afternoon at Allianz Field, using a second-half strike from Dominik Fitz and a dramatic late penalty save from goalkeeper Kristers Bite to secure all three points. MNUFC2 now turns its attention to the next matchup on Saturday, May 2, when the Twos travel to face St. Louis CITY2 at RCTC Stadium in Rochester, Minnesota.
5’ - MNUFC2 created the first scoring chance of the game as First Team midfielder Dominik Fitz delivered a through ball into the box intended for midfielder Jakob Friedman, who took a shot that was deflected to forward Darius Randell towards the back post, but North Texas SC was able to defend and clear the ball out.
17’ - North Texas responded with a dangerous opportunity of their own as Christopher Salazar pounced on a bouncing ball in the Twos’ box and found Leonardo Goncalves, who one-touched the ball over MNUFC2 Kristers Bite’s crossbar and out.
18’ - The Twos sustained offensive pressure as Randell struck a shot from outside the left corner of the box, but the ball soared over the center of the crossbar and out.
21’ - MNUFC2 generated another scoring chance when Randell drove by a North Texas defender, taking the ball to the baseline, ultimately sending the ball back to Marcus Caldeira inside the box, who struck the ball toward the far post, but was saved by goalkeeper Eryk Dymora.
48’ - The Twos opened the second half, sustaining their offensive pressure as Jadan Bernard made a run and took from the left side of the box, and took a shot aimed at the far right post, but was saved by Eryk Dymora and out for a corner kick.
51’ - Another scoring opportunity was created as defender Nick Dang sent a cross which curled into the box and connected with Randell’s right foot on a one-touch shot that was sent out over the crossbar and out.
52’ - North Texas quickly responded when a cross found Goncalves near the spot, whose shot was blocked by a Twos defender and cleared out.
58’ - The scoring chances continued for MNUFC2 as Caldeira quickly found Fitz, who had an open shot within the box, ultimately striking the ball low and toward the far post, but was corralled by a diving Dymora.
63’ - Bite made a jumping save on a North Texas counterattack on a strong shot from Edouard Nys.
72’ - Fitz created another run up the right side of the pitch and then crossed it over towards Caldiera’s head in the center of the box. The ball skimmed away and was sent back to Sam Vigilante at the top of the box, who struck the ball over the crossbar and out.
74’ (1-0) - MNUFC2 scored the lone goal after Caldeira obtained possession in the middle third and played a diagonal through ball for Kenyel Michel on the left flank. Michel carried into the 18-yard box and played a short pass back for Fitz, sitting on top of the penalty area. Fitz took a touch before firing a shot that found the back of the net.
86’ - Twos midfielder Luciano Pechota received a through ball on the right side of the pitch, who then crossed a soaring ball into the center of the box, which connected with a jumping Caldiera, who sent a header just over the crossbar.
90’ - North Texas was awarded a late-game penalty kick after a foul in the box was conceded by Issa Saidi. Nathaniel James struck the penalty shot aimed at the left side of the net. Bite dove and saved the shot, which ultimately led to a clearing.
