MNUFC2 battled hard at the National Sports Center against Austin FC II, creating several dangerous chances throughout the match and breaking through just before halftime on a sliding finish from Logan Dorsey. Despite continued pressure in the second half, the Twos secured a valuable result at home. The Twos now turn their attention to the road, traveling south to face St. Louis CITY2 in their next matchup on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
5’ - MNUFC2 registered the first official shot of the match after a bouncing ball at midfield allowed Loons midfielder Calin Grulke to loft a ball over the top of Austin FC II’s backline. Austin’s goalkeeper Charlie Farrar came far off of his line and was beaten to the ball by Loons forward Logan Dorsey. Dorsey was able to loft a shot over Farrar but the shot was cleared off the line by Austin FC II.
7’ - Goalkeeper Kai Zeruhn made a crucial close-range save with his chest for MNUFC2, denying Vlad Dănciuțiu’s first-time shot as the forward made a run into the six-yard box after receiving a pass.
20’ - After a short corner kick between MNUFC2’s Kieran Chandler and Loïc Mesanvi, Mesanvi lofted a cross into the box towards Babacar Niang who had time to take the ball down and square the ball back to Mesanvi at the top of the six yard box. Mesanvi then struck a shot that deflected off MNUFC2’s Logan Dorsey out for an Austin FC II goal kick.
34’ - MNUFC2 continued to create dangerous opportunities, this time from a long through ball out of the defensive third by Babacar Niang that found Logan Dorsey making a run into the penalty area. Dorsey struck a one-touch shot, but goalkeeper Charlie Farrar was able to comfortably control it.
38’ - Zeruhn launched a free kick into Austin FC II’s box and found the head of Mesanvi who was able to get enough behind the header to direct it towards goal, but the shot was caught by Austin FC II’s Farrar.
44’ - After Chandler collected a bouncing ball at midfield he was able to spring Mesanvi in behind up the left flank. After dribbling at pace against Austin FC II’s Chuy Moreno, Mesanvi cut inside on his right foot and had a shot on frame that deflected out for a MNUFC2 corner kick.
45’ + 1’ - After a short throw-in, Roman Torres gained possession near the top of the 18-yard box, took a few touches, and fired a shot that narrowly missed the upper-left corner.
45’ + 2’ (1-0) - MNUFC2 struck first on the scoresheet as Babacar Niang was able to pick up the ball at midfield and drive at Austin’s midfield line. After breaking the line he played a pass out wide to Kieran Chandler who hit a first time cross towards the front post which found a sliding Dorsey who scored his seventh goal of the MLS Next Pro campaign.
75’ - MNUFC2 was able to create another crucial chance as Muba Nour took the ball off Austin FC II defender Daniel Cieśla in Austin’s defensive third. Nour then forced a shot on goal, but Farrar made a foot save that kept MNUFC2 from doubling their lead.
85’ - Austin FC II had a chance to equalize late in the second half as a goal kick from Farrar took a bounce that threw off Twos’ defender Kieran Chandler, leading to a loose ball bouncing in stride to Austin FC II’s Chris Avila in MNUFC2’s defensive third. Avila forced a close-range shot on goal, but was denied by Zeruhn.
