MNUFC2 fell 2-0 to North Texas SC on Saturday evening at NSC Stadium in Blaine, despite creating several second-half chances and playing the final 24 minutes with a man advantage after North Texas midfielder Timothy Ospina was sent off in the 66th minute. The Twos now turn their attention to a midweek road matchup against Portland Timbers2 on Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. CT at Providence Park.
18’ - MNUFC2 earned a free kick on the right side of the penalty area that was taken by Andy Farris. The kick was curled near the penalty spot where Marcus Caldeira won the header but goalkeeper Nicolás Arango Montoya was forced to dive to make the save.
26’ (0-1) - North Texas were the first ones to find the back of the net through Enzo Newman. Edouard Nys carried from the middle third into the attacking third, where he slipped a short through pass for Diego García. García played a squared pass to connect with Newman, to put it over the line.
42’ (0-2) - North Texas doubled their lead this time through Ricky Louis after stepping up to take a direct free kick on the left flank of the penalty area. He curled the attempt and found the back of the net.
47’ - MNUFC2 found a chance near the goal as Jakob Friedman made a cross inside the penalty area and found Philip Tarnue. Tarnue was able to get a header but the attempt went wide of the right post.
56’ - The Twos continued to be a threat as Farris stole possession of the ball near the 18-yard line. He took a touch before firing an attempt but the opportunity went just wide of the right post.
63’ - MNUFC2 continued to get closer through Farris as he made a cross into the penalty area near the goal line but Darius Randell could not get a foot on the ball to push it over the line.
66’ - North Texas Midfielder Timothy Ospina was sent off after receiving a second yellow when he fouled Luciano Pechota. The Twos were up a man in the last 24 minutes of the match.
